Recommended Shogi Tsume-Shogi(Shogi problem,Shogi puzzle) Learning Sites!!
This time, we’re looking at Shogi learning websites!!
Conclusion
- lishogi → Has about 1,000 easy problems. If your goal is to improve at shogi, I’d strongly recommend it.
- Tsume-Para → Lots of good 3-move problems that are great for studying. Just solve the ones you can.
- If your goal isn’t to get stronger at shogi, but simply to solve difficult problems and enjoy tsume-shogi as puzzles, then you can trytsume-shogi museum and Masterpiece collection sites .
Personally, I don’t recommend them. From what I’ve seen, many people who have tried them end up feeling that they are not ideal if your main goal is improvement.
If you’re curious about the "why" behind this, I’ve written a blog post about it. Here’s the link:Why Tsume-Shogi Matters
Anyway, enough rambling. Let’s jump straight into the sites you can actually use.
lishogi https://lishogi.org/training/mateIn1
~Super handy with about 1,000 1-move and 3-move problems!!~
This is a Shogi play site that supports English. It’s actually quite multi-functional, packed with features like "Next Move" puzzles and Tsume-Shogi problems. I’ll explain the Tsume-Shogi feature here, as it’s one of the most useful tools they have.
It features "real-game style" problems, a massive library, and you can use it right in your browser without downloading anything. In short, it’s incredibly user-friendly. I highly recommend it.
Most of the problems are ones that are likely to occur in actual shogi games. If you just want to study Tsume-Shogi for now, solving up to the 3-move puzzles here should be enough. However, I do not recommend anything beyond that. Because they seem to be AI-generated, you’ll find some really weird problems. Sometimes there are multiple solutions, and even if you’ve delivered a mate, the site will tell you it’s "wrong" just because you didn't pick the specific sequence it wanted.
But since those issues are rare for puzzles up to 3 moves, I’d say it’s personally recommended. This site is probably the best place to start your Tsume-Shogi journey.
Tsume-Para (Tsume-Shogi Paradise)
https://kukilabo.sakura.ne.jp/tspweb/index.html
~The veteran program of the Japanese Tsume-Shogi world~
There are tons of puzzles here, and the usability is decent. It’s a site operated (I believe? I’m not 100% sure) by the Japan Tsume-Shogi Association. Even if you're aiming for 3-dan, solving up to 3-move problems here is perfectly fine. Anything beyond that is just a hobby. Since it’s hard to get your hands on Tsume-Shogi materials overseas, this might be worth checking out.
However, since it’s run by old-school Tsume-Shogi experts, the difficult problems are insanely hard. I suggest sticking to 3-move problems. Anything past that is just for fun. The hardest problems are intended for professional players. I don't solve them because it’s not ideal if your main goal is improvement
This is mainly for people who are really serious about tsume-shogi.
In the world of tsume-shogi, there are problems that feel almost impossible for humans to solve. I’d like to introduce a few sites for people who enjoy that kind of challenge. This area is generally aimed at very high-level players, roughly Shogi Wars 10-minute 6-dan and above. By the way, even if you solve these, they are so difficult that you’ll never use them in a real game, so unless you’re a pro, your skill won’t actually improve. it’s not time-efficient.

~For people who want to solve tsume-shogi with over 200 moves, or the very hardest tsume-shogi problems available.~
This is a collection of "Kanju Award" winners—problems that are the most difficult in Japan or highly appraised by Tsume-Shogi creators. The long-form ones are especially brutal. If you can solve one in a month, you’re probably way stronger than me. Actually, I’d just wave a white flag and run away. These are mainly for professional players. I'm not even going to try, as I know for a fact I can't solve them with my current skill level.

~For those who care less about playing strength and just want to enjoy solving extremely challenging tsume-shogi puzzles.~
Inside this site, there’s a collection called "Shogi Zuko." It’s been said that if you can solve all of these on your own, you’ll reach a professional level of Tsume-Shogi skill. Even for a Shogi Wars 6-dan, it’s said to take about 3 to 5 years of daily effort. And that’s just for one book.
There are about 30 to 50 of these "books" in total. In other words, you can’t solve them unless you have non-human level Tsume-Shogi ability. Since I’m weak and think it’s a waste of time, I have zero intention of solving even a single one. I'm not even going to try, as I know for a fact I can't solve them with my current skill level. I might finish them all if i repeat my life about 100 times... maybe.
Summary
- lishogi → Has about 1,000 easy problems. Highly recommended.
- Tsume-Para → Lots of good 3-move problems that are great for studying. Just solve the ones you can.
- If your goal isn’t to get stronger at shogi, but simply to solve difficult problems and enjoy tsume-shogi as puzzles, then you can try the tsume-shogi museum and Masterpiece collection sites .
Personally, I don’t recommend them. From what I’ve seen, many people who have tried them end up feeling that it wasn’t the most efficient way to improve.
